Emily Chang, anchor of Bloomberg West, interviewed Carma’s Director of America’s Paul Steinberg during the middle of a Bay Area transit strike. Bloomberg TV described the scene as Carmageddon as hundreds of thousands of daily commuters had to find alternatives to work or stay home.
Mark Jones of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC 511.org) covers the real-time ridesharing Carma project in the San Francisco East Bay. Funded by the Federal Government, MTC awarded Sonoma, Marin and Contra Costa counties a Climate Mitigation Grant (CMAQ) to expand casual carpooling into the suburbs. This is a behind the scenes look at the program through the eyes of two commuters that use Carma to commute from Walnut Creek into Bishop Ranch employment center in San Ramon, CA.
Andra Lim of the Austin American Statesman covers the launch of Carma Carpooling in Austin Texas. A public private partnership with TxDOT Texas Department of Transportation, CTRMA Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and TTI Texas A&M Transportation Institute. The project was launched in February 2014 to increase passenger throughput along toll road 183A. The Carma App provides vehicle occupancy to the Texas TxTag toll billing system, and users receive rebates from 50% to 100% for HOV 3+ carpools.
